The dog has its day
Article Abstract:
Domestication and selective breeding have transformed wolves into the diverse breeds of dogs, and this has led to dogs becoming great source of information for studying phenotypic diversity for morphological, physiological and behavioral traits. Various genetic testing techniques and genomic approaches would help in providing insight into key features of mammalian biology and genome evolution.

A big issue for trees
Article Abstract:
An experimental test of the presence or absence of senescence-related changes in trees that live for many centuries and grow to more than 100 meters in height in association with ageing is conducted. Results reveal that size, not meristematic cellular senescence, accounts for the reduced growth rates in older, taller trees.

Plectasin is a peptide antibiotic with therapeutic potential from a saprophytic fungus
Article Abstract:
Plectasin, the first defensin to be isolated from a fungus, the saprophytic ascomycete Pseudoplectania nigrella is described. Plectasin has primary, secondary, and tertiary structures that closely resemble those of defensins found in spiders, scorpions, dragonflies and mussels.
