The pulling power of galaxy clusters

Article Abstract:

There is evidence of large streaming motions of distant galaxy clusters, reported by Hudson and colleagues, that raises questions about the smoothness of the large-scale Universe. They used empirical correlations between surface brightness, size and velocity dispersion of clusters of elliptical galaxies, under the Streaming Motions of Abell Clusters project (SMAC).

The state of the Universe

Article Abstract:

New telescopes and detectors have allowed astronomers to map out the large-scale structure of the Universe and probe the very early stages of its evolution. The basic parameters are established describing the behaviour of our expanding Universe, thereby putting cosmology on a firm empirical footing.

Characterizing the nonlinear growth of large-scale structure in the Universe

Article Abstract:

A study of the identification of cosmic structure with emphasis on its nonlinear growth is presented. The use of phase correlations in the characterization to show the ways in which this relates to the structure is described.
