Trading places; the idea is to move some black howler monkeys, relatively abundant in northern Belize, to an area in the south where the species has gone extinct
Article Abstract:
Black howler monkeys were successfully reintroduced to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, which is located in southern Belize, in 1985. The relocation project consisted of preparing the release sites, translocating the monkeys and monitoring the population after the translocation. A total of 14 howler monkeys were relocated, but only 12 monkeys survived for the ten months following the translocation.
