Tribal groups attack ethics of genome diversity project
Article Abstract:
Tribal groups strongly oppose and criticize the Human Genome Diversity Project for its unethical proposals. The project aims to provide genetic information about various ethnic groups on the basis of gene samples collected from them. The tribals are against such commercialization and patenting of their genes. Numerous samples have been collected without meaningful informed consent. Moreover, the samples were collected on the assumption of analyzing communities's health status, but were used for genetic research purpose.

NSF urged to increase plant genome sequencing effort
Article Abstract:
The US National Science Foundation could undertake a $40 million a year project to sequence a plant genome, as proposed by a key Senate committee. The move has been prompted by corn growers who see the potential for increasing crop yields. However there are concerns that amount being earmarked will mean that there will be less available to other areas of science.
