When giants roamed
Article Abstract:
A demonstration that the passage of Jupiter and Saturn through a 1:2 mean-motion resonance (MMR) could account for the orbital spacing, eccentricities and inclinations of all four giant planets are presented. An MMR is a 'sweet spot' in the Solar System when the orbital periods of two bodies are ratios of whole numbers, and this is also a site where a planet's periodic gravitational perturbation can 'pump-up' another body's eccentricity and/or inclination.

Escape from HER-family tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy by the kinase-inactive HER3
Article Abstract:
The durability of phosphatidylinositol-3-OH kinase (PI(3)K)/Akt inhibition by human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER)-family tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) is investigated. The analysis has shown that HER3 and PI(3)K/Akt signalling is not effectively inhibited by current TKIs and hence HER3 transphosphorylation might be a better biological marker of efficacy to guide future therapies.
