World of birds
Article Abstract:
The Wildlife Conservation Society sent its staff and ornithologists to different parts of the world to bring back rare species for display, with a view to protecting and preserving birds. William Beebe went on a voyage to Asia to study birds and became a world authority on pheasants, Lee S. Crandall found the first birds of paradise, while William Conway brought 20 James's flamingos. The Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area was established in 1993 to develop a breeding program. Similar breeding and development programs are undertaken to overcome the threats to different species in different parts of the world.

Gardeners' Eden
Article Abstract:
The Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area in the eastern highlands of Papua New Guinea was established for the preservation of its wildlife, particularly, the rain forest. The Gimi women of that region look upon rain forests for their daily sustenance; they also serve as these women's refuge and kitchen gardens. Rain forests have also become part of Gimi women's culture, as it has become the source of their stories.

Protecting birds of paradise
Article Abstract:
The Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area in Papua New Guinea was first conceptualized in 1978 when Prof. David Gillison was inspired to preserve the rain forests' birds of paradise, which were slowly disappearing. A wildlife management area was arranged by the local people of Crater Mountain and the Papua New Guinea government. The local landowners still possess authority over the rain forests in Crater Mountain.
