Europe's Neolithic period is examined in four books published in 1996. These are Christopher Tilley's 'An Ethnography of the Neolithic: Early Pre-Historic Societies in Southern Scandinavia,' Alasdair Whittle's 'Europe in the Neolithic: The Creation of New Worlds,' Julian Thomas' 'Time, Culture and Identity: An Interpretive Archaeology' and I.J. Thorpe's 'The Origins of Agriculture in Europe.' The Neolithic covers about 2,500 to 3,000 years of European prehistory and is characterized by the rise of farming communities throughout the region.

The Neolithic and Bronze Age of Northern Greece

Article Abstract:

A list of projects undertaken in the last two decades on the Neolithic and Bronze Age of Northern Greece is presented. The discussion focuses on the discoveries in four Greek provinces: Thessaly, Macedonia, Thrace and Epirus. A review of the conclusions of each project and a comparison with recent archeological evidence are also included. A summary of the archaeological phases and chronology for Northern Greece is presented in tabular form.

The stone age of Greece from the Paleolithic to the advent of the neolithic

Article Abstract:

Archaeologists' late start in studying the prehistoric archaeology of Greece, from the Paleolithic to the Neolithic, is a great loss to prehistoric research. A major factor that contributed to the neglect of Greek prehistory is the lack of financial support and tools. Researchers were also discouraged by the poor record of preservation of archaeological sites due to complexities in Greece's geographic location.
