Issues discussed concern the life and work of one of the first American archaeologists, Montroville Wilson Dickeson, who spent many years researching the relics of the Mound-builders in the Mississippi Valley. Topics addressed include Dickeson's research methods, his discovery of prehistoric humans living at the same time as Mastadons, and his theories on when people initially settled in America.

The way in which a baby is accorded full linguistic comprehension when most of the Westerners see babies merely on the threshold of any cognitive competence, linguistic or otherwise is studied. For this purpose the cultural contours of childhood as it is imagined in one corner of rural West Africa is investigated.
