A multidisciplinary team from the Smithsonian, coordinated by archaeologist William Fitzhugh, is seeking clues to ancient nomadic life at the edge of the Arctic. Since the early 1990's Turkish, French and German archaeologists are carrying out expeditions in an effort to understand how a group of Steppe nomads conquered and ruled a significant belt of the Old World.
