Roots of Tibetan Buddhism; a U.S. Chinese team hopes to clarify Buddhist history in the high plateau of western Tibet

Article Abstract:

Excavations of a temple and monastic remains at Piyang, Tibet showing that Tibetan Buddhism may have undergone a renaissance in this part of the country in the 10th and 11th centuries AD are discussed. The ruins are of a temple complex which became one of the primary centers of Buddhist teaching in the country for the next 500 years.

Guge: Tibet's long-lost kingdom

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on Guge, an ancient Tibetan kingdom dating from the 10th century AD, and ruins from the era at Tholing and Tsaparang. Theories on the kingdom's demise include attacks by Muslim tribes to climate-driven environmental degradation.

China's "Dead Sea Scrolls;" recently discovered bamboo manuscripts could revolutionize our understanding of Daoist and Confucian traditions

Article Abstract:

Bamboo manuscripts dating from the 4th century BC, not long after the death of Confucius and found in a suburb of Beijing are described. Study revealed the manuscripts to contain Taoist and Confucian texts.
