UK: HOUSING TRENDS DOMINATED BY LONDON

Article Abstract:

The high salaries of people working in the financial service sector in London is contributing to the boom in the local housing market, with prices and demand ahead of the UK national average. Financial services account for 41% of the London economy, and employees can be paid bonuses that allow them to buy a home for cash. The lack of available properties is also pushing up prices in London, hence plans by the Mayor of London to allocate 35% of new housebuilding in the capital to people on modest incomes. However, fears that the London economy could be hit by a shortage of workers due to the high living costs have been rejected by historian Peter Thorold, who points to the enduring stability and success of London over the years.

The caves at Ajanta

Article Abstract:

The caves that Buddhist monks carved into the cliffs of Ajanta, in India's Deccan plateau, make up one of the finest artistic and archeological sites in the world. The first caves were made around 100 BC, but after 460 AD, during the last 20 years of occupancy, true artistry became a feature of the monastery. Creativity and eager patrons encouraged the monks to copy in stone the wooden temples and palaces they had previously worked on.

Experts agree: we're finished

Article Abstract:

Four books on war and world disorder in the 21st century are presented. Forecasts about forces already in play are woven into horrific stories of tomorrow, such as a Hispanic-inspired US civil war. 'Beginning of the End' by apocalyptic Christian writer John Hagee is compared to the other books.
