Airport '96

Article Abstract:

Traveling has become a routine way of life for most people due to job demands and travel's growing conveniences. However, this has given rise to the commercialization of aviation. To bring back romance into traveling, interior designers must work at making airports appear to be more than mere people-processors. The newly-designed international airports of Miami, FL, Chicago, IL, and Denver, CO, should serve as examples to airport authorities that a travel experience should go beyond safety toward comfort and luxury.

A textbook case...

Article Abstract:

Architects are hard-pressed to name a book that best exemplifies their profession. One book that comes to mind is Ayn Rand's 'The Fountainhead,' which tells the story of a red-headed architect named Howard Roark. Roark never settles for compromises and rarely complains when faced with adversity. He exemplifies architects who bring passion and high ideological convictions to their practice. Roark's philosophy of winning clients first before building is a common yet secret goal within the profession.

Urban design: conjuring up reality

Article Abstract:

Architects, specially those doing urban design, are faced with the tremendous responsibility of harnessing their imagination to create a desired reality out of any specific locale or situation. In the design of public spaces, the myriad problems of coping with environmental and social concerns add to the already difficult work of envisioning something out of nothing.
