Animated eats

Article Abstract:

The design of the Surf 'n' Turf, a restaurant in Matsuyama, Japan, features an animated atmosphere which integrated a variety of forms and bold colors. Designer Jordan Mozer conceptualized the restaurant as a cartoon world wherein every element conveys a sense of movement. The seeming confusion of the restaurant belies the simple floor plan which arranged the spaces to promote intimacy and allow people-watching. The creative and well-thought out design executed in an innovative manner results in an atmosphere of fantasy and enjoyment.

Magic muse

Article Abstract:

Designer Jordan Mozer translates the magical theme of Shakespeare's play into architectural elements in his design of The Tempest, a restaurant and dance club in Houston, TX. The circular plan evokes the island setting of the play while the interior design presents a windblown effect, reminiscent of a storm in progress. The use of circular patterns also reinforce the overall magical atmosphere as do the columns, the mosaic medallions on the floor and elements such as door knobs and drapery brackets.

Space is the place

Article Abstract:

Stars, located in Frankfurt, Germany, is a restaurant whose design was inspired by the Big Bang Theory, the Space Race and 1960s era. Jordan Mozer and Assoc explored the concept of expansion and created a space where elements have gaps between them to artistically illustrate this theme. An example are the columns lining the entry which do not connect with the ceiling beams. The gaps are illuminated through indirect cove lighting to evoke weightlessness and a sense of space.
