Article Abstract:

Two architectural projects are presented. These are the Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) at the Mirimar Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA, and the Grafton Jobs Corps Center in Grafton, MA. Howard Needles Tammen and Bergendoff designed the San Diego TRACON which is the US' first integrated air traffic control facility. The on-going project is set for a May 1993 completion. Moore-Nolte Assoc designed the Job Corps Center which includes dormitory and medical/dental facilities and administration offices. The program aims to promote a family atmosphere also conducive for learning.

Heartening developments

Article Abstract:

The Stafford Place in Ballston, VA is under renovation to accomodate the offices of the National Science Foundation (NSF). The project is designed by architectural firm Weihe Partnership to provide 434, 200 sq. ft. of usable space for the NSF which will be the only office tenant among retail tenants. Likewise, the Ehrenkrantz and Eckstut Architects is working on the Los Angeles Gateway Center, a 75-acre mixed project which will house government and commercial buildings along with public transit facilities.

Research for health

Article Abstract:

The Walter Reed ArmyInstitute of Research in Forest Glen, MD, has commissioned the Haines Lundberg Waehler to execute the design for a 485,000 sq ft facility which will house theinstitute's integrated research operations. The Franciscan Children's Hospital in New England is undergoing a similar expansion, having commissioned The Ritchie Organization to execute the redesign and renovation of the center's structure.
