At last! Women get their own voice

Article Abstract:

A newsmagazine exclusively for women was established by a former deputy editor of a Scottish newspaper. Feminists argued that most of the newspapers in circulation dedicated no space for the advancement of women as leaders and social pioneers. A trial issue of "The Scotswoman", an offshoot of the newspaper, "The Scotsman", sold out in three hours after distribution. The editors of the paper reverted back to its original format despite the success of the trial issue. The newspaper Worldwoman is published in print and through the Internet at www.worldwoman.net.

The last Boy Scouts?

Article Abstract:

Swedish designers are regarded as world leaders in products for the handicapped, but recession has restricted opportunities for designers in other areas, with little funding for new product development being available. However, some designers have been able to find new markets, such as hospital equipment and telecommunications. Furniture design is also flourishing, but there have been few new ideas in textile design recently and graphic design work has failed to take off.

Last word

Article Abstract:

Trends in interior design in Italy were affected by the country's involvement in World War II. Post-war poverty is signified by the presence of wood-fueled stoves as part of indoor furnishings. Italian designers also emphasize the value of function in creating design solutions which are characterized by freedom. Furthermore, interior decorations are greatly influenced by the designers' acceptance of the old and the definition of luxury design items.
