Improved characterization of mixing for sludge conditioning

Article Abstract:

A shaft mounted torque meter or a measurement of the power consumed by the mixer would enable the derivation of correct G values and lead to the assessment of G as a valid characterization parameter. Torque should have been measured directly on the mixing shaft and a torque meter which measures only the horizontal component of torque should not have been used. However, the authors contend that torque was correctly measured, thereby, deriving constant G values. They also maintain that G is a useful, but inadequate, parameter for characterizing mixing intensity and scaling up to full-scale facilities.
