Monumental folly

Article Abstract:

Hitler regarded architecture as the ideal method of expressing Nazi ideas in a permanent way, and the Nazis took control of almost all forms of art. The ethnographer vs. the folk expert: pitfalls of contract ethnography

Article Abstract:

The inherent antagonisms between ethnographers and folk experts are examined and traced to the lack of appreciation for each other's research goals. Folk experts apparently seek out academics to legitimize their interpretations of local folkways while ethnographers view folk experts as useful and valued key informant-colleagues. A stronger definition of the roles and working policies of each group is urged to alter the normally antagonistic relationship between them.
