Papered down

Article Abstract:

Office automation has increased the amount of paper waste in the workplace. Efforts to contain the mounting waste piles focused on recycling but solid waste workers realize that reduction in the actual use of paper will help address the situation. Inform Inc conducted a report on reducing the use of office paper. Results show that this practice can benefit companies in terms of environmental quality, lower supply, mailing and waste disposal expenses and less storage space. Inform Inc also suggests the use of double-sided copying and decreasing the number of copies of memos and reports to reduce paper use.

Community action

Article Abstract:

New York Cares makes good use of discarded office equipment and furniture by collecting these and turning them over to non-profit companies. This will enable these companies to acquire office furniture and channel their financial resources to more service-oriented undertakings. The various opportunities that presented themselves made the New York Cares management realize the need to make the venture into a full-time enterprise. The management plans to enhance its operations by inviting the participation of interior designers and furniture manufacturers to determine the best use of the different equipment.
