Earthly delight

Article Abstract:

Irish designer Clodagh creates an innovative design for Felissimo, a retail store in Midtown Manhattan, NY. Felissimo features the integration of diverse elements that enhance and at the same time digresses from the design of the origiinal strucutre. Critics pan the design as a commercial gimmick which caters to fad consumers. However, Clodagh justifies the design as one which appeals to those who are more sensitive to their surroundings and which represents a tranquil yet rich environment. This was achieved through the use of ornate hand-made eye-catching fixtures and finisheswhich catch the attention before the products do.

Cruise Ship

Article Abstract:

Celebrity Cruises hired Birch Coffey Design Associates to design the interior of its newest luxury liner. The Century's most important public space, its restaurant, expresses the classic style of high quality. Its broad and sweeping staircase is framed by satin brass and stainless steel columns while deep pile carpeting covers the football field-sized floor. Other luxury features of the liner include the Crystal Room, a cabaret lounge done in glass bubbler tube walls with an etched-glass and goldleaf chandelier, and the penthouse suites which have furnitures upholstered in silk, leathers and other natural fabrics.

Tongue in chic

Article Abstract:

Jigsaw's newest women's wear retail outlet in London translates Classical Italian design elements into modern forms and textures. The resulting effect is both theatrical and functional and makes the shop stand out among its more traditional rivals. The architects' choice of colors and materials promotes an upswing mood which is reinforced by the store's spiral grand staircase and its unique custom spiral chandelier. The successful integration of drama, classicism and modernism creates a shop that is both classy and appealing.
