Cleaner carpets

Article Abstract:

The Carpet and Rug Institute has initiated a program to regulate carpet products' emission levels and reduce indoor pollution. The program aims to address environmental concerns for indoor spaces and assure consumers of the safety of carpet products. Manufacturers must submit their products for testing to determine whether the carpets comply with the emissions criteria. Those that pass the test may affix the program's seal while those who fail should make product adjustments. The products will undergo a yearly test to maintain the label. The program also provides data on carpet installation and maintenance.

Glazing details

Article Abstract:

Architect John Storyk of Walters Storyk Design Group plans designs which make offices and studios sound proof. The walls and the glass windows are made thick and sealed, preventing any outlet for noise. In a Manhattan office, neoprene U channel gasket was used on top of the edges which join the window frames. Insertion of 1/2 inch thick wood frame between the window frame and glass plane also helps to isolate the sound. Strips of neoprene sheet resembling a U channel gasket are stuck to the glazing edge sheet in the design of a recording studio.
