Ellerbe Becket plans a leading children's cancer clinic around a family-oriented backyard theme

Article Abstract:

The new floorplan of the Children's Cancer Center at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, TX, was designed by Ellerbe Becket, who consulted closely with the Center's staff. He also mapped the flow of human traffic in the area before setting down to work. The result was a horseshoe traffic configuration which assured family members of patients access to staff at all times and provided medical teams space for exam/procedure clusters. Ellerbe opted for the front porch/backyard theme instead of the homelike feel as he thought that the center could not be taken as home.

JAMS/Endispute

Article Abstract:

The offices of new mediation company JAMS/Endispute at San Francisco, CA, were designed by Brayton and Hughes to be informal and friendly, unlike those of most other arbitration firms. Nevertheless, the resulting design was still in consonance with the general atmosphere of a law firm. Separate waiting areas are provided for parties in a dispute while the mediation rooms are filled with cheerful designs.
