Doing justice with cameras in the courts: How important is the public operation of the judicial system?

Article Abstract:

Television coverage of trials expanded rapidly during the early ears of the 1990s, but following the debacle in Judge Lance Ito's courtroom judges throughout the country started rejecting TV coverage. The Supreme Court does not extend the free-press guarantee fully to television, therefore judges can decide what value TV access should be accorded. Broadcasters must present trials in a way that responsibly informs the viewers to encourage judges to admit cameras.
