Healing spirit

Article Abstract:

The meditation room of the University of California San Diego Medical Center was designed by Carmen Igonda using the concept of earth, fire and water as the guiding spiritual elements of a non-denominational prayer room. A 350 ft rectilinear room with no windows was transformed into a place for soul searching with the incorporation terra cottas and golds to represent earth, a glass sculpture to represent fire and a Zen-like water wall. The room attempts to create order andsolace for patients faced with confusion and uncertainty.
