IBM Corporate Headquarters

Article Abstract:

IBM corporate headquarters located in Armonk, NY, was designed by Swanke Hayden Connell Architects and built by Kohn Pedersen Fox Assoc. The partnership was admittedly one of their most successful projects. They complied with specifications to make the proposed headquarters a living monument to the firm's legendary history and its future. The 280,000-sq-ft building is shaped like a lightning bolt with a stainless-steel, reflective glass and polished granite exterior finish and a black-marble-floored interior.

Interior design firm Bottom Duvivier created an interior design theme for Sun Microsystem's factory in Newark, CA, aimed at combining the building's smaller divisions to resemble a campus. The facility's interiors also emphasized open spaces and access to natural light. Furthermore, the Bottom used linear and angular design concepts to signify the strength of the company's image. Colors used in the interiors connote the sun's colors such as pumpkin, yellow, green and purple.

Fly by night

Article Abstract:

Eric Hilton has opened the Dragonfly sushi bar, his third club in Washington DC. The Dragonfly's futuristic design, which was solely done by Hilton, was inspired by the retro futurism of Eero Saarinen, Verner Panton and Italian designer in the 1960s. It was also patterned after the sets of the Stanley Kubrick's movie entitled 2001: A Space Odyssey. Hilton's Dragonfly can rival any New York or London club when it comes to design.
