Look who's talking

Article Abstract:

Product First is one of three design consultancies involved in the development of the videophone. The others include Hop Design and Random Group. GEC Hirst named Product First to develop concepts using the advanced flat screen colour display. Hop Design worked with GEC-Marconi to develop a product with a screen/camera included on a flap which can be opened or shut when required. Finally, Random Group was asked by British Telecommunications to design a videophone which fitted into the 'Relate' range of phones, also designed by Random.

New look New York

Article Abstract:

Penny Hudd, a UK graphic designer, has been commissioned to design a new signposting system for the Grand Central Station area of New York. The scheme is part of an initiative by businesses in the area who have imposed a voluntary tax on themselves to pay for transforming the area. Hudds proposed designs will reduce the amount of signage in the area by 40% and provide orientation signs for traffic and pedestrians. The work may not be used if New Yorkers reject the new signs as they have done with others.
