Return of the bottle

Article Abstract:

Arla, Sweden, milk producer, is testing on the Swedish markets a tinted, polycarbonate, returnable milk bottle, in competition with Tetra Pak, Sweden, supplier of milk cartons, which also supplies cartons to Arla. Tetra Pak dominates the world market. In 1990, 57.4 mil cartons were produced either by Tetra Pak itself or under the Tetra Pak licence. Surveys by Arla show that up to a third of consumers could prefer an alternative to Tetra Pak packaging for environmental reasons. Arla's new bottle has been designed by Interdesign, Stockholm, Sweden. Between October and December 1991, it won 20% of Arla's milk market.

This time it's personal

Article Abstract:

It is forecast that tailoring, the designing of products to meet individual customers needs, will be practiced more in certain industries. Larry Keeley, leader of design company Doblin Group of the US, claims that companies should be more aware of the needs of individuals, which have been overlooked in the age of mass production. He predicts that customers will order goods like pizzas in future and be able to select from many different options.
