Sun Health Residence for Alzheimer's care

Article Abstract:

The 18,000 sq ft Sun Health Residence in Peoria, AZ, was designed by Taliesen Architects led by Stephen Nemtin specifically for patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease characterized by progressive disorientation, memory loss, uncontrollable discharge of body wastes, and a tendency to wander around. Three diamond-shaped units comprise this one-storey facility. Its design concept which combines architecture, nature and the healing arts includes bright, barrier-free areas, clustered living units and enclosed gardens.

Beachfront estate

Article Abstract:

Architect Celeste Cooper was asked by the new owners of a beachfront residence she had designed to redecorate the interiors in a more continental style. Cooper adopted a palette of cream, ivory and copper and textures that are dominated by silk fabrics. The entrance greets guests with copper silk draperies hung from bronze poles, while the living room features two Corinthian columns that highlight thw owner's collection of Greek and Etruscan artifacts. The dining room has a spectacular view of the sea.

Perimeter Gallery

Article Abstract:

The Perimeter Gallery located in Chicago, IL, was redesigned by architectural firm Brininstool and Lynch to accommodate separate exhibition areas for different artistic objects. The gallery measures 2,300 sq. ft. and has been redesigned with hanging walls to convey the feeling of penetrable walls. The lighting, which is primarily soft, was designed to make narrow spaces seem wider.
