The Danish question

Article Abstract:

The Scandinavian Furniture Fair, taking place on May 6-10, 1992, will have 360 exhibitors, although almost 90% of these will be from Denmark. There will be more diversity among the 13,000 trade visitors, representing more than 50 countries, and export sales are essential for Danish manufacturers, with three quarters of output being exported. Exports continue to grow, with the largest market being Germany, but furniture designers are experiencing more difficult times, with only 15% of producers using designers at all.

Growing concerns

Article Abstract:

Management buyouts are becoming increasingly common in mainland Europe, while growth is slowing in the United Kingdom. UK buyouts were valued at 8.2 billion pounds sterling for 1997 compared to 10.9 billion pounds for mainland Europe. Venture capital groups generally see great potential in mainland Europe, and prospects look positive for the long term, though there may be slacker activity over the short term due to concerns about equity markets and a possible economic slowdown.
