High-tech humanism

Article Abstract:

High-Tech Humanism is the principle adapted by the design profession to reflect its concern for making the office environment more attuned to the needs of workers. In interior design, humanism provides the guidelines for the integration of technoloy, design and worker's comfort. Designers should be aware of standards of physical, psychological health and safety of workers which should be integrated into the design of buildings. Design professionals should be able to match the building owners' plans with the requirements of users.

A spelling device for the paralyzed

Article Abstract:

A new method of communication for the completely paralyzed has been developed, using slow cortical potentials (SCPs) of the electroencephalogram which drive an electronic spelling device. The spelling device can be operated by regulating the brain responses. It was found that patients lacking muscular control can accurately control variations in their SCPs, enough to operate an electronic spelling device.
