Article Abstract:

The Lanesborough Hotel in London, England combines historic architecture with up-to-date technology. The designers transformed the former hospital into a luxury hotel with an authentic 19th century motif. They also installed highly-advanced computer systems which address guest requirements and enhance hotel management and operations. The hotel's integrated systems include the Front of House system, the Marlok Guest Key system and the Systemteq Room Management/Butler Call System. Other systems are the Mitel telephone system andthe Remanco Point of Sale system.

Kontrase, Hurgary's leading private firm, coordinated with Golub and Co, Chicago's leading real estate development firm, in constructing new office buildings with Western technology. Kontrase's chairman, Grabor Disco, felt that it was essential to adopt American techniques of real estate designing and planning for the progress of Hungary's free market system. Skidmore, Owens and Merrill's project designer, Jaime Velez, introduced the idea of open plan offices on the upper storeys.

Detailing Light: Integrated Lighting Solutions for Residential and Contract Design

Article Abstract:

The lighting design of the Jil Sander Boutique in Paris, France, and the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, NY, are described. The interior design, equipment and techniques used to achieve the architect's desired effect are discussed. In both works, light was used to emphasize the primary focal points of activity and the architecture. Indirect lighting was also used to create space and mold individual spaces.
