The Homestead

Article Abstract:

The Glave Firm's renovation of Club Resorts' railroad resort in the Virginia mountains, The Homestead, received the title of Best Hotel during the 19th Annual Interiors Awards Competition. The Glave Firm attempted to match the hotel's interior with the beautiful landscape by using nature-inspired colors, patterns and materials. Leaf-strewn carpets were placed in the resort's double-height Great Hall to provide a relaxed environment while an arcade of doorways and striped glass panels were installed in the historic 600-seat Main Dining Room to subdivide the expansive space.

Fila USA Corporate Headquarters

Article Abstract:

Shelton, Mindel and Associates transformed a 1970s building into the uniquely bold headquarters for Fila USA sportswear giant, thus receiving an award for Best Large Office during the 19th Annual Interior Awards Competition. Shelton, Mindel redesigned the floor plan surrounding the triangular glass-roofed atrium to expose the dark interior and soaring atrium. The designers installed 30-ft-high curtain walls of translucent glass and white metal panels in place of the atrium's former 'bad mall' interior and constructed work areas for an estimated 400 employees.

Mindel residence

Article Abstract:

Shelton, Mindel and Associates and Reed Morrison Architect renovated Lee Mindel's New York City-based residence and thus received the award of Best Residence during the 19th Annual Interiors Awards Competition. The 40-by-80-ft top floor of a former factory was transformed with the use of natural materials, geometry and Mindel's personal collections of decorative art and furniture. Designers installed an L-shaped 'service bar' that separates the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry and storage from the house's public places by floor-to-ceiling sliding panels.
