The Getty Center

Article Abstract:

Architect Richard Meier took inspiration from Hadrian's villa in Rome in designing the Getty Center. Taking 14 years to complete the structure, Meier combined old-world ceremony with the informality of southern California to createa stunning interior never before seen in similar institutions. Windows and pergolas are used to frame views of the city of Los Angeles, hills and the ocean. Courtyards are treated as outdoor rooms with sunlight penetrating all working and circulation areas.
