Two wheels good

Article Abstract:

Three different bicycle designs are evaluated. The bicycle designed by Alex Moulton is a redesign of his first bicycle of 1962. This was produced by Raleigh, but discontinued in 1974. Frans de la Haye's Span-bike is exceptionally light and uses pre-tensioned tubes. Its producers are Haeghe Industrie. The Lotus Sport bicycle was designed by Chris Boardman who won a gold medal on it at Barcelona. It is designed purely for speed and has no brakes, gears or freewheel. Its main features are the monocoque blade and the monoblade steering assembly.

The Milan Fair

Article Abstract:

The Milan Fair, 'Salone Internazionale del Mobile' was an exhibition of Italian furniture design held between 20 Apr and 25 Apr 1993. There were expectations of new ideas, which were not met by the items on display. The furniture designers have no theme or cause and simply react to the designs of former years. Amongst those companies who displayed products were B&B Italia, Antonio Citterio, Jasper Morrison, Brit James Irvine, Zanotta and Moroso.

RCA x Furniture x Gothenburg

Article Abstract:

A six day workshop was held for furniture design students from Gothenburg University in Sweden and UK students from RCA. Their task was to design a party table. The finished table was made of laminated chipboard and each of the 24 legs was designed by a student. The result was a disappointment. The failure of the two teams to merge their talents may be due to the competitive atmosphere and individual imaginations.
