New players, new rules

Article Abstract:

The focus of agrarian reform is currently changing both in terms of geography and in its basic orientation. Geographically speaking, agragrian reform is now being undertaken by the former Soviet republics, Eastern Europe and South Africa. The trend is shifting from collective farming to private farming as these countries strengthen their efforts to become marketeconomies. However, there is a need for governments to polish their policies asthey embrace the free market system to provide agricultural research, extensionservices and schools and health services.

Big trouble: Celebrity trials and the good old days that never were

Article Abstract:

The 'circus trials' such as that of O.J. Simpson, have been decried by Americans, but criminal trials were a popular form of entertainment as early as the 19th century, due mainly to journalists. The labor radical William D Haywood's 1907 trial and acquittal is examined, bringing to the fore early courtroom circuses, through the birth of the penny press to Harry Thaw's prosecution on charges of murdering Stanford White.

"My twins were born three months apart."

Article Abstract:

A woman pregnant with twins gave birth to one prematurely, but managed to keep the other for an additional 92 days. The family received a great deal of media attention because the time between the boys' births nearly broke a world record.
