10th General Assembly of the International Dance Council

Article Abstract:

The 10th general assembly of the International Dance Council held in Pyongyang, North Korea in Sep 1992, had two days devoted to papers on 'Research Work and Other Activities in Various Fields of Dance, East-West Dialogue,' one day of reports from various countries, and a two-day seminar on the North Korean dance notation system Chamo. The papers dealt with topics such as traditional sources of dance and dance's relation to other art forms. Though the Chamo dance alphabet is effective, its universal applicability is limited because it works best only with structured dance forms, not with looser choreographies.

Korea international dance event: KIDE '95

Article Abstract:

The international dance festival in Korea in 1995 was marked by events such as performances of traditional Korean dances, video presentations, movement workshops and discussions of the cultural aspects of dance. The regional focus of cultural studies was evident in discussions of methods in researching dance history in Malaysia, the post-colonial systems of funding in the Philippines and the dangers of generalizing culturally-bound characteristics of dances.
