Alla Shelest (1919-1998)

Alla Shelest was a dynamic Russian ballerina. She danced for the Kirov Ballet and performed in "La Bayadere," The Sleeping Beauty," and "Giselle." She did not have the perfectly proportioned body that is admired in the late 20th-century, but was emotionally explosive and admired by Rudolf Nureyev. Shelest also was an inspiring dance teacher and a director of a ballet company.
