Berlin

Article Abstract:

The dance performance of Ester Duarte and Chiche Nunez in a gathering to celebrate the opening of the Salon Urquiza in Berlin, emphasizes the essence of dancing in pairs: a man and a women engaged in conversation together, using the language of movement, in a world defined exclusively by the music and the force of gravity. Ester and Chichi showed to the world two unpretentious individuals who choose to spend part of an evening hearkening only to the music and to each other, with their casual elegance and attentiveness to each other's every shift of weight.

All in the trimmings

Article Abstract:

The National ballet of Canada in its 2002-2003 season gave an object lesson in the virtues of simplicity, the pitfalls of overtrimming, Fredrick Ashton's 'La Fille Mal Gardee' and John Alleyne's 'Tristan and Isolde' are compared to study the effectiveness of the trimming they employ to enhance their narration, and it is concluded that while Ashton knew the value of simplicity and could judge with taste the trimmings that would enhance and complement it, Alleyne resorts to gauze to hide its essential weakness.
