Jose Limon's 'The Moor's Pavane': an interview with Lucas Hoving

Article Abstract:

Lucas Hoving originated the role of Iago in Jose Limon's 'The Moor's Pavane' on Aug 17, 1949 at the American Dance Festival in New London, CT and was seen regularly in the role until he left the Limon Company in 1963. He reminisces about various aspects of the choreography and the role. Some of the choreography was based on pre-classic dance forms and the end of the dance was choreographed at the last minute. Iago was a character of several sides: the destructive, pathological person, the villain, and the person under the domination of powers beyond his control.
