Ghostcatching: An intersection of technology, labor, and race

Article Abstract:

Ghostcatching, a 1999 installation that used motion-capture technology to present traces of Bill T. Jones dancing, is described. Ghostcatching provides a new generation in a genealogy of automatons and mechanized figures, challenging previous modes of commodification and enjoyment of the racialized other.

The critical burden of history

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of dance scholarship is presented, focusing on aspects of theory that hinder rather than enhance the field's development. These include the overuse of jargon, the assumption that dance is an evolutionary process, and the application of analytical frameworks ill-suited to the subject.
