The Sanskritized body

Article Abstract:

Bharatanatyam, the Indian classical dance form, is linked with 'Natyashastra' whose authorship is attributed to Bharata, the King of India, and the principles of 'bha-va, ra-ga, and ta-la' of Indian Sangeet (musical forms), establishing that the dance possessed an ancient spiritual and aesthetic heritage. Further, since Bharata is the Sanskrit name for India, the name also linked the dance to nationalism, thus the dance of Tamil Nadu represent a unified India.
