Shakers in cyberspace: electronic resources and the bibliography of dance
Article Abstract:
A great variety of online resources on the subject of dance are available to bibliographic researchers. Prime sources include national bibliographic databases, such as OCLC and RLIN; specific subject databases, such as the New York Public Library Dance Collection Database; and more comprehensive subject indexes, such as the Expanded Academic Index and CARL UnCover databases. The World Wide Web does not provide a great deal of relevant material at present. A lengthy, selective and annotated bibliography on the art and life of pioneering modern dance choreographer Doris Humphrey is provided.

Dance Medicine Symposium
Article Abstract:
A group of dancers, dance educators and physical therapists convened in Mar. 1995 to discuss the integration of dance as a health practice and the possible careers available for people trained in dance. The participants acknowledged the importance of learning how dance enhances physical health and how dancers must also be aware of health qualities that are integral to dance. Studies were also presented on skeletal mechanisms involved in dance and the stresses on pointe shoes.

Non-Polynesian dance in Hawai'i: issues of identity in a multicultural community
Article Abstract:
The state of Hawaii contains many ethnic groups and cultures comprising one local identity and dance contributes to that identity. The rivalries among the various dancers and studios tend to encourage qualitative excellence and to transcend purely political agendas. The dances of many ethnic groups symbolize Hawaii's multicultural identity. Dance forms brought by immigrants from the Americas, Europe, Asia and other Pacific islands are perpetuated in new and traditional forms.
