'The Spirit of the Factory': Adolph Bolm's post-moderne masterpiece

Article Abstract:

'The Spirit of the Factory,' first produced in 1931, featured Adolph Bolm's avant-garde choreography but has practically vanished despite a significant initial impression. Critics and scholars of ballet have regarded 'The Spirit of the Factory' as a masterpiece, but its only revival was an excerpt performed in 1983. The original performance was filmed and photographed, but the choreography has been lost and the film was heavily edited.
