Eggi's village

Article Abstract:

Anthropological research shows that matriarchal societies exist in modern times. The Minangkabau tribe of West Sumatra, Indonesia, is a large matriarchal society which was once a Dutch colony. The lifestyles of its residents are based upon Islamic religion and tribal customers. Women play a dominant role in Minangkabau society and own ancestral land. Aspects of life in the matrilineal tribe are illustrated.
