Cheap fuel and small cars don't co-exist

Article Abstract:

The '97 international auto exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland reflected high European taxation of gasoline by mostly featuring compact cars. The taxes originated in the 1940s as a result of postwar scarcity, and have survived as government revenue sources, not Europeans' environmental sensibilities.
