Advance collector training using role-playing

Article Abstract:

Role-playing has proven to be an effective method of training credit collectors. This training strategy aims to teach would-be collectors to deal with debtor resistance to paying. For role-playing to be effective, there must be only two active players who must always stay in their respective roles. It is not necessary for the play-acting collector and debtor to maintain eye contact to lessen their discomfort. It is also essential for the non-playing trainees to listen attentively to the actors. Several tips for starting and ending role-playing sessions are offered to trainers. Some suggestions for trainers playing the collector role are also presented.
