The funeral business

Article Abstract:

The UK funeral business is predicted to be worth 857 million pounds sterling, at 1999 prices, in 2003. The funeral business was worth 806 million pounds sterling in 1998. It is predicted the number of funerals will decline in 1999 to 623,000 from 625,000 in 1998. The funeral business has been affected by the decline in the death rate as people live longer. The average cost of a funeral increased by about 21% before inflation, during 1994-99. The pre-paid funeral business is growing in popularity, with about 70,000 new plans being sold each year.
