Chaperone-like activities of the CsaA protein of Bacillus subtilis

Article Abstract:

Results show that cytoplasmic protein CsaA from Bacillus subtilis is capable of suppressing growth and protein secretion defects of Escherichia coli secA(Ts) strain. Data indicate that chaperone-like properties of the CsaA protein mediate such effects through its translocation activity.

Detergent-independent in vitro activity of a truncated Bacillus signal peptidase

Article Abstract:

Results show that the five signal peptidases from Bacillus subtilis are about half the size of those Escherichia coli enzyme and contain a single membrane anchor. Data indicate that the signal peptidase SipS from B. amyloliquefaciens exhibits optimal activity at pH 10 and lacks the detergent-binding surface domain.

A 22 kb DNA sequence in the cspB-glpPFKD region at 75 degrees on the Bacillus subtilis chromosome

Article Abstract:

The region that is located 75 degrees on the Bacillus subtilis genome map was cloned and sequenced by Long Range polymerase chain reaction. The 21.8 kb region of Bacillus subtilis non-redundant deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) region is composed of the YhcD, YhcG, YhcH, Yhcl and CspB open reading frames. The YhcD is composed of 51 codons without a ribosome binding site sequence. On the other hand, the YhcH open reading frame exhibits a similar DNA sequence to the adenosine triphosphate-dependent ABC transporters of Pseuomonas stutzeri.
