A dedicated Wnt secretion factor

Article Abstract:

A new Wnt pathway component called wntless or evenness interrupted is identified. This gene encodes a new multipass transmembrane protein that is conserved in metazoans from worms to humans and two alleles of wis/evi are observed in a genetic screen for recessive suppressors of a Wnt gain-of-function phenotype in the Drosophila eye.

Secretion of Wnt ligands requires Evi, a conserved transmembrane protein

Article Abstract:

A conserved multipass transmembrane protein, Evenness interrupted (Evi/Wls) is identified through an RNAi survey for transmembrane proteins involved in Drosophila Wingless (Wg) signaling. Wg is retained by evi mutant cells which may be the founding member of a gene family specifically required for Wg/Wnt secretion.

Eater, a transmembrane protein mediating phagocytosis of bacterial pathogens in Drosophila

Article Abstract:

A predicated transmembrane protein, Eater, which is involved in phagocytosis in Drosophila, was identified. Results suggested that Eater was a major phagocytic receptor for a range of bacterial pathogens in Drosophila and provided a powerful model to address the role of phagocytosis in vivo.
