A general model for nucleic acid helicases and their "coupling" within macromolecular machines

Article Abstract:

The authors present a review of the publications on the molecular mechanisms used by ATP-driven helicases to separate and rearrange complementary strands of the double helical nucleic acids. The points of interest include definition, properties and parameters of the helicases, their reaction cycle and thermodynamics of the single-step helicase cycle.

Opening of the clamp: an intimate view of an ATP-driven biological machine

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the DNA polymerases which require tethering to the accessory factor, a ring-shaped clamp, to bind to DNA during replication. The authors review the structural studies on loading these clamps onto DNA by the clamp loader machine.

Closing the folding chamber of the eukaryotic chaperonin requires the transition state of ATP hydrolysis

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on eukaryotic and bacterial chaperonin. The authors have investigated the mechanism governing chaperonin's function in order to understand its involvement in eukaryotic protein folding, and discuss the results.
