A novel regulatory switch mediated by the FNR-like protein of Lactobacillus casei

Article Abstract:

Fumarate and nitrate reduction regulator (FNR) and cAMP receptor protein CRP in Escherichia coli, control the expression of overlapping modulons of target genes, when responding to environmental or metabolic stimuli. It was suggested that FLP could initiate the same transcriptional switch as FNR, only at a later phase in the signal transduction pathway. However it appears likely that the modified FNR is a disulphide or polysulphide derivative obtained by oxidative degradation of the Fe-S clusters.

A gene replacement strategy for engineering nisin

Article Abstract:

An alternative lactococcal expression system for the lantibiotic nisin produced by Lactococcus lactic is developed. The system uses the technique of gene replacement to incorporate a copy of the nisA gene into a nisA-deficient nisin operon. The genetic manipulation of the nisA gene is facilitated by vectors that also allow the variant genes to be substituted for the chromosomal wild-type gene.
